'Wills for Heroes' Prepared by Montgomery County Lawyers

Montgomery Bar Association lawyers gave their time to provide free services for the county's first responders.

First responders do so much to support a community. In Montgomery County, the community wanted to find a way to give back. Established in 1885 to "professionalize the county’s practice of law," the Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) is one of the nation’s oldest bar associations, representing over 2,100 legal professionals in Montgomery County, Pa., according to Jack Costello, marketing manager for the MBA. The MBA decided to use its standing and abilities to give back to the county's first responders in a unique way. Montgomery Bar Association Welcomes New Leaders

Bar Association’s Annual Business Meeting Luncheon marks the installment of new leaders and honors attorneys, community leaders and local heroes.

From the Montgomery Bar Association: On Friday, Jan. 11, the Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) held its annual business luncheon meeting at the Meadowlands Country Club in Blue Bell.  Nearly 300 local dignitaries, legal professionals and community leaders attended the event which included the election of the MBA’s officers for 2013, an awards presentation to honor area attorneys, members of law enforcement and community leaders, as well as the installation of its 89th president, Paul C. Montgomery Bar Association Awards Grants to Local Nonprofits

The Montgomery Bar Association gave money to local groups that support law-related community issues.

From the Montgomery Bar Association: Montgomery Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Montgomery Bar Association, awarded grants to five local organizations to support their respective, law-related community initiatives.  Checks from the foundation recently were distributed to the following organizations prior to the association’s board meeting: For over 25 years, grants like these have been awarded by the Bar Foundation to serve the elderly, homeless, victims of domestic violence, troubled and underprivileged youth, and other individuals and families in need. Public Invited to Celebrate Law Day at the Courthouse

The Montgomery Bar Association will be celebrating in courtroom A, honoring new members, high school mock trial winners and public service award winners.

The Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) is inviting the public to attend its 2012 Law Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 1, at 11:30 a.m. in Courtroom “A” at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The MBA will be honoring newly admitted members to the Bar, winners of the Montgomery County High School Mock Trial Competitions, recipients of  Public Service Awards and others.  Following the ceremony, Law Day festivities will continue with a complimentary buffet luncheon at the Montgomery Bar Association building at 100 West Airy Street. MBA Golf Classic Raises $38,000 for Legal Aid

The annual day-long golf outing raises awareness and funds for Legal Aid of Southeastern PA – a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal representation and assistance to low-income and vulnerable people.

Earlier this summer, the Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) held its annual Legal Aid Golf Classic at Bellewood Country Club in North Coventry. With matching funds from the MBA and Montgomery Bar Foundation (MBF), the event netted an amazing $38,000 for Legal Aid of Southeast Pennsylvania (LASP). The annual day-long golf outing is held jointly by the MBA and MBF to raise awareness and funds for LASP – a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal representation and assistance to low-income and vulnerable people in Montgomery and neighboring counties. Young Lawyers Prevail Over Old in Annual MBA Softball Game

The Young Lawyers broke their nine-year losing streak last night, defeating the Old Lawyers 13-7.

The Montgomery Bar Association held it's annual "Young Lawyers vs. Old Lawyers" softball game Tuesday at Norristown Area High School, a tradition it's upheld for over 50 years. The Old Lawyers had dominated the game, winning nine of the last 10 years' outings. Although they took an early lead over the youngsters and played with gusto, the Young Lawyers won the day 13-7.

Here are five things to know about Norristown and life today.

1. Tonight's Municipal Council meeting has been rescheduled for tomorrow so council members can join the rest of the community for Norristown Night Out at the George Washington Carver Community Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Join Norristown Community Policing and Town Watch for free swimming, food, dancing, a karate demonstration, emergency vehicle demonstrations and lots of information tables with giveaways. The program is meant to encourage communities to come together to have a night out against crime. 2. Softball to swimming is not too big a leap, but it’s that time of year again! Gavels and Grand Slams

Local lawyers and judges will face off in the Montgomery Bar Association’s annual "Old Lawyers vs. Young Lawyers" softball game at Norristown Area High School on Tuesday.

Patrick Kurtas didn’t predict the outcome of a softball game other than to say it will be competitive, fun and the old guys will probably win. Again. Kurtas, an attorney at Prince & Kurtas in Pottstown, will play in the Montgomery Bar Association’s annual "Old Lawyers vs. Young Lawyers" softball game at Norristown Area High School on Tuesday, Aug 2. Players will take the field at 5:15 p.m.  The event will include local lawyers and judges in a legal community tradition that dates back to 1956.
