The crew is filming at 'Arbor Hill,' the 70-acre Dennis Alter estate.
Area star watchers be alert: Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, and a host of other Hollywood stars will likely be hanging around the area for the next few days. The famous actors are in town to shoot a scene for the movie 'Paranoia,' a thriller slated for release in September 2013. Residents of Sheaff Lane in the Ambler section of Whitemarsh got a letter in their mailbox on Wednesday, letting them know that the production might disrupt traffic as it films on Thursday, Friday and Monday. The letter is as courteous as can be, stating that staff members will be working closely with Whitemarsh Police and consider themselves guests of the neighborhood, promising to minimize disturbance and help with deliveries or handicap…

A look at the superstition behind Friday the 13th
Friggatriskaidekaphobics are surely hiding behind closed doors (unless they are claustrophobics too), avoiding black cats, mirrors and salt today. According to the website The Unexplained Mysteries, the fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia. Frigga, meaning "Friday," and triskaidekaphobia, or paraskevidekatriaphobia, derived from the Greek words "Paraskevi" (Friday) and "dekatreis" (thirteen). The word was derived in 1911 and appeared in a mainstream source in 1953, according to the site. Today is the third (and final) Friday the 13th this year. We had one in January and in April. Sadly - and surely a disgrace for horror buffs - no Jason Voorhees marathons on anywhere on TV. It's not like the old days. There are many …

Five things to know about Norristown and life today.
1. The library’s Summer Movie Madness kicks off this afternoon at 1 p.m. Head on over for some good company, cool air conditioning and yummy popcorn! 2. Speaking of movies, Disney darling Selena Gomez’s new flick, Monte Carlo, hits theaters this Friday. Make it a family outing. 3. MontCo SAAC is sponsoring “Nutrition for You!,” a class for seniors to learn how to nourish their changing bodies. Go-time is 10:30 a.m. 4. Today is the birthday of the saxophone. In 1846, Adolphe Sax patented the instrument, making it an official invention and assigning its creation a certain science. 5. And speaking of saxophones, jazz legend Charlie Parker once said—“Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come…

It's not a feminist 'Hangover' or even a 'wo-mance'– it's just a really funny movie.
For a few years now, certain passionate factions of Interweb folk have been grumbling about a particularly troubling phenomenon in mainstream movies. While there seem to be a growing number of filthy, yet thoughtful male-centered comedies (most of them involving Judd Apatow in some way), there are very few quality comedic offerings for the ladies, by the ladies. Women are left with poorly written sap-fests starring actresses that look nothing like them or their friends. You know these movies, where they get together and talk about nothing but how men are so very very terrible and how best to trick said men into loving them forever, right? Most women don't like these features, and yet that doesn't stop studios from churning them out. …

Wonderful scenery, characters and story will have audiences talking long after the final credits have rolled.
Easily the best movie to grace local screens this year, "Certified Copy" is one of those films that's a joy to watch and even more of a joy to think about afterwards. It's an amazing movie that will stay with you for days if not weeks. A master class in acting, cinematography, storytelling and general filmmaking, "Certified Copy," the first European film directed by Iranian New Wave giant Abbas Kiarostami, is a meditation on art, marriage and much else. There's so much going on here that it's almost hard to know where to begin. This very international production – shot in Italy with British and French leads, an Iranian director and language divided roughly into English, French and Italian – won prizes at Cannes in 2010. As long as its …

Cast, writing and direction – there are no losers in this one.
Tom McCarthy's Win Win is like three movies in one, all of them very good. Well-written, directed and acted, Win Win adds up to a very of-the-moment story of real people struggling with real problems. It's both heart-warming and legitimately funny. The protagonist is a lawyer, and there are several scenes involving high school wrestling, but Win Win isn't really a lawyer movie or a sports movie. The pitch sounds a lot like The Blind Side—stable nuclear family takes in a high school kid from a troubled background who has surprising athletic talent—except the Michael Oher figure is much whiter and skinnier, and the movie ends far away from the NFL Draft. McCarthy, a character actor who was on The Wire and has appeared in small parts in …
