Greist, who killed his pregnant wife, remains in psychiatric care for another year.
He has been there for 35 years, and he'll be there at least 365 days more. According to a report on philly.com, Richard Greist, of East Coventry Township "went on a rampage," on May 10, 1978. Greist, who was then 27, "stabbed and killed his pregnant wife and pulled the unborn child she was carrying from her womb, stabbed his 6-year-old daughter in the eye, and slashed his grandmother's throat," said the philly.com story. Greist was committed in 1980 after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. He was then taken to Norristown State Hosptial, where he's lived since. According to court records, 19-year-old Kareem Ali Borowy was facing felony drug charges in connection with a March arrest at the King of Prussia Mall.
The West Pottsgrove teen who was found dead on Sunday was scheduled to appear in court this week on felony drug charges, stemming from a March arrest at the King of Prussia Mall. Kareem Ali Borowy, 19, was charged on March 9 with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, and related charges after police said they saw him involved in a drug deal in the mall's parking garge. Court records indicate that Borowy, along with his friend, Robert Bickel, and another man, Thien Nguyen, 25, were arrested and charged during the incident. The Chester County DA has announced he will seek the death penalty against Shakeem Carter, who is accused of the brutal murder of a Norristown teen.
Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced Thursday that the state will seek the death penalty against Shakeem Carter, the Norristown man accused of the brutal murder of 17-year-old Kevin Allen on Feb. 12. "The decision to pursue the death penalty is reserved for the most serious crimes and is only reached after careful deliberations," Hogan stated in a release. "After consultation with the police and the victim's family, this decision is based upon the circumstances surrounding the murder of this young man." Kyree Wells is facing gun-related charges in connection with several shooting incidents in Norristown in December 2012.
A 21-year-old Norristown man wanted by police on receiving stolen property and gun-related charges, was taken into custody on Tuesday by Philadelphia Police. According to Norristown Police Det. Lt. Michael Crescitelli, Philadelphia officers were conducting a traffic stop on Kyree Wells when a routine check revealed the active warrant. Wells is also reportedly wanted by Montgomery County Adult Probation. Wells is believed to be involved in several shootings in Norristown in December 2012 and is facing firearm-related charges after police executing a search warrant on his home found guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia, police said. Authorities have arrested a second suspect in the Feb. 11 shooting death of 25-year-old Andrew Polen of West Norriton. Andrew Tomlinson, 18, is accused of being the accomplice of 18-year-old Rontrey Wilkins, who was charged the day after the killing. According to authorities, Wilkins, Tomlinson and a third unidentified male allegedly conspired to rob Polen and a friend during an attempt to settle a drug debt. Polen was shot during the failed robbery attempt and later pronounced dead at Mercy Suburban Hospital. An investigation of the shooting led authorities to Wilkins, who reportedly admitted his role in Polen's death when authorities interviewed him the next day. Chester County District Attorney Thomas P. Hogan is expected to announce that an arrest has been made in connection with the alleged murder of 17-year-old Kevin Allen, of Norristown. Allen's body was discovered at the scene of an apartment fire in North Coventry in Chester County on Feb. 12. The death was ruled a homicide. Hogan is scheduled to make the announcement Wednesday morning at the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester. Brendan Pierce was convicted of the first-degree murder of 16-year old Dominique Devlin in 2011.
According to The Times Herald, Brendan Pierce, the Norristown man convicted in November of killing 16-year-old Dominique Devlin in July in 2011, was sentenced on Wednesday, Feb. 13, to life in prison. "I have no doubt, Mr. Pierce, that you planned this murder, committed this murder and it was done for revenge," Judge Thomas C. Branca reportedly said during sentencing.
