Viewfinder: GNPAL MLK Day of Service 2013

Over 350 volunteers from around the Delaware Valley spent their Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League.

On the morning of Jan. 21, over 350 people listened intently as youth from the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League (GNPAL) took turns reading aloud the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Addressing the audience from high above in the gymnasium’s balcony, the youth proudly proclaimed the words of King, whose speech relayed his dream that one day citizens of this nation will be free to be judged, not by how they look but on what they do. Before reaching the end of the speech, the audience, most of whom were strangers at that point, was then asked to clasp hands and in unison proclaim the last words of King’s speech: "Free at last! free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" This was how the …

Goodnight, Irene

Norristown continues to find damage in the wake of the hurricane.

The storm has lightened here in Norristown, but residents are still uncovering its wrath. As daylight broke, the aftermath of Hurricane Irene became more and more evident. Locations like Crawford Playground, the Norristown Police Athletic League (PAL), and streets along the creeks and river have suffered serious damage.
