From the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society: Just in time for spring, over 2,000 new trees will be planted in Norristown, thanks to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC). To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at MLK Park at East Oak Street between Arch and Violet streets on Monday, April 30 at 10 a.m. Join Montgomery County Commissioner Leslie Richards, Norristown Municipal Councilwoman Linda Christian and representatives from PENNVEST and PHS. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) will lead a Green City Teachers workshop in how to create a school garden on June 29 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Science Leadership Academy at 22nd and Arch streets in Philadelphia. Designed for area educators interested in school gardening, the nine-hour, two-session course will cover: The theme of the workshop will be “Involving the Community.” An Act 48 credit is available for participants. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) will coordinate the planting of 175 bare-root trees in Montgomery County this Saturday, April 9, as part of a new regional initiative, Plant One Million. According to a release issued by the PHS, the trees will be planted with the help of PHS Tree Tenders and other volunteer and municipal groups in Abington, Ambler, East Norriton, Lower Merion, Lower Moreland, Norristown and Upper Dublin. PHS and its partners are launching Plant One Million, the nation’s largest multi-state tree campaign, to replenish the tree population of 13 counties in the Greater Philadelphia region, southern New Jersey and Delaware.
