Norristown Municipal Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy Street and Council has full agenda on its plate, most of it in the Planning, Economic and Business Development committee. In addition to a public hearing on and motion to adopt the new subdivision and land development ordinance (SALDO), there will be a public hearing on a conditional use appeal for 112 East Main Street. De Sheng Zheng is seeking a conditional use approval from council to operate both a restaurant and apartment at that address. Norristown Municipal Council heard the results last night of a study on turning DeKalb Street into a two-way corridor.
Is turning DeKalb Street into a two-way corridor practical? According to a study conducted by McMahon Transportation Engineers & Planners, the answer is yes. Jennifer Walsh, who presented the study’s findings on behalf of the research company at Wednesday night’s meeting, explained the purpose of the study, possible outcomes and next steps in the process should the project move forward. Specifically, the study looked at improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, enhancing pedestrian safety and whether or not the conversion to two-way flow was feasible. The goal of the project is to create access to downtown Norristown from the north, which would bring more passage through to the local business district. The project, according to Walsh, …

the bike trail on east lafayette street is also a popular dumping grounds where people leave trash all over the place. every once in awhile they have a community service clean up crew come through, but not nearly often enough.
