Vera Cavello Dies of Injuries Sustained in Saturday Fire in West Norriton

The woman who was rescued by firefighters from a fire at her West Norriton home on Saturday died of her injuries on Sunday.

According to The Times Herald, the elderly woman who was rescued from a burning home in West Norriton early Saturday morning has died of her injuries. According to her obituary on Legacy.com, Vera "Babe" Cavello, nee Lombardo, died at Temple Burn Center in Philadelphia from injuries she sustained in the fire at her home. She was 90 years old.  Cavello was born in Norristown and had previously worked at the Hoisey's Nill and the Lombardo Laundromat in Norristown. She is survived by four sons, a daughter and six grandchildren. Nicholas Cavello, her son, was also injured in the blaze, but was reportedly released from the hospital on Sunday. UPDATE: Firefighters Rescue Woman From Sterigere Street Blaze

Jefferson Fire Company, with assistance from Norristown and East Norriton companies, battled a house fire on Sterigere Street in West Norriton early Saturday morning.

UPDATE: [1/19/13; 12:30 p.m.] According to West Norriton Fire Chief Kevin Guirate, firefighters from Jefferson Fire Company, with assistance from the Norristown and East Norriton fire departments, battled the blaze in the 1400 block of Sterigere Street for approximately an hour and forty minutes before the scene was brought under control. Much of the fire was contained within an hour, and the damage was confined to just the one home and attached garage.  Chief Guirate applauded the effort by his firefighters and also that of the two Norristown firefighters who arrived on the scene early and entered the building to rescue a woman trapped inside. I called Vera every so often since my Mom Rose's passing and Hope and Pray they are together. So very Sorry to the family that I missed paying my respects as I found out too late. Council Honors Firefighters for Courage in the Line of Duty

Assistant Chief David Keeley and Firefighter Robert Myers were awarded medals of valor for a high-angle rescue of a man trapped in a 100-foot water tower.

Norristown Municipal Council honored two Norristown firefighters on Tuesday night Assistant Chief David Keeley and Firefighter Robert Myers were each awarded a medal of valor for a high-angle, confined-space rescue of a worker trapped in a water tower in Audubon on Dec. 5. Keeley and another rescue worker, Joe Dishler, manned the rig while Myers rappelled down the inside of the 100-foot tower to free the worker caught in his own rigging 60 feet up. Two Norristown firefighters involved in a Dec. 5 water tower rescue in Audubon are being honored by council tonight.

Norristown Municipal Council meets again tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy Street. Among the business on tonight's agenda will be approval of the now-expired contract with Laborers’ Local 135, a public hearing on conditional use for proposed billboards in town and a discussion of the Lafayette Street Extension. Investigation Continues Into Tragic Water Tower Accident

Lower Providence officials stated the fall that lead to a maintenance worker's death in Audubon may have been due to equipment malfunction.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is continuing its investigation of a worker who fell to his death inside an empty Audubon water tower on Dec. 5. Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman reportedly ruled the workers’ death as an accident. The worker, identified as Jason Schmidt, 31, of York County, was an employee of Corrosion Control Corp. in Pedricktown, N.J. Schmidt and a co-worker were said to be on duty performing maintenance work in the 100-foot water tower when the incident occurred. Schmidt’s co-worker also fell into the tower, located on Featherbed Lane, but was suspended for nearly three hours before being rescued. Lower Providence officials believed the workers’ …

Serious Accident Closes Swede Road in East Norriton

Emergency personell are on the scene for a rescue operation.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety's live incident feed, authorities responded to the area of Swede Road and Evergreen Avenue at approximately 7:51 p.m. for a serious auto accident that required a rescue of at least one victim. Details are few, but a witness on the scene provided Norristown Patch with pictures of what appears to be a two-car collision. One of the vehicles reportedly hit a utility pole. Some residents in the direct vicinity reported via Facebook of having lost power for a few minutes around 8 p.m., but it is unclear if the two incidents are connected. Officials ID Victims in Audubon Water Tower Accident

A New Jersey man was injured and a Pennsylvania man killed when they fell inside of a 100-foot water tower they were working on in Audubon on Wednesday.

Lower Providence officials have identified the victims of Wednesday's water tower accident following notification of the victims' family. According to officials, 38-year-old Miguel Martinez, of Pennsgrove, N.J., was taken to Paoli Hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the incident. Jason Schmidt, 31, of Jacobus, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene. Both men, employees of Corrosion Control Corp. of Pedricktown, N.J., had been working inside the water tower located on Featherbed Lane in the Audubon section of Lower Providence Township. --- Related Story One Dead at Audubon Water Tower

One Dead at Audubon Water Tower

Second worker taken to Paoli Hospital after three-hour rescue.

A man was killed in Audubon on Wednesday morning when he fell to the bottom of a water tower where he was performing maintenance work.  A second worker also fell in the accident but became suspended about 40 feet above the floor of the empty water tower, which is owned by Audubon Water Company. He sustained unspecified injuries and was trapped for almost three hours while rescuers descended along ropes to attach a harness to him and lower him to the floor. Authorities said the injured man was conscious throughout the ordeal, but rescuers had difficulty communicating with him because of sound conditions on the inside of the water tower. News Next Door: Cop Saves Dog From Schuykill River

The dog was reportedly trapped under a log.

A dog may be man's best friend, but every now and then, man returns the favor. Monday morning in Royersford was one of those times. Shortly before 9 a.m., Royersford Police Department patrolman Mark Smythe received a radio report from a passerby that a dog was trapped under a log in the Schuylkill River. Smythe responded to the scene, jumped into the river, and rescued the dog with the help of bystanders. The dog was treated by a local veterinarian and later returned to his owners.
