Police have identified the victim of last Friday's shooting; still searching for gunman.
The Norristown Police Department has announced the identity of the victim of the Friday afternoon shooting on Chain Street. According to the police report, an officer on patrol heard approximately 10 gun shots coming from the 600 block of Chain Street. After turning the corner from Marshall Street to Chain Street, the officer noticed a black male wearing a white t-shirt and shorts – identified as Melvin Butts, of Philadelphia – hobbling towards Oak Street while holding his left side. Butts was later airlifted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he required surgery to repair a gunshot wound to his left abdomen and lung, police said. The suspect has used cloned credit cards to purchase gift cards at various Walgreens locations in Bucks, Delaware, Philadelphia and Montgomery counties
Towamencin Township Police are working on a joint investigation with the Pennsylvania State Police to identify a man authorities say is responsible for credit card fraud and other theft-related offenses in four Pennsylvania counties. Police said the man used cloned credit cards to purchase gift cards during the second week in January 2013. The man used the cloned cards at Walgreens stores in Flourtown, Drexel Hill and the Feasterville-Trevose area, police said. Police said the suspect also used a cloned credit card with the Philadelphia Parking Authority on M Street in Philadelphia on Jan. 10, 2013. Lansdale Police are searching for a Philadelphia man wanted for evading police during a high-speed pursuit in March. Ansord Rashied, 32, of the 4700 block of Wallace Place, Philadelphia, also has an active warrant for burglary in Whitemarsh Township. Police believe Rashied may be residing in the Norristown or Collegeville area. Police said that on March 31, 2012 at 8 p.m., police responded to 639 South Broad Street to investigate a suspicious auto, identified as a dark blue 2003 Honda Pilot. A police officer approached and spoke with the driver of the Pilot, identified as Rashied, police said. The description of the suspect is similar to the one released in the robbery of a Lower Providence bank last week.
Authorities are looking for an unidentified man who robbed the Ambler Savings Bank at the intersection of Germantown Pike and Route 363 in Worcester Township on Monday morning. Pennsylvania State Police said the man entered the bank at about 10:05 a.m., walked to the teller counter, and demanded money from the teller. Police did not say whether the man was armed, but initial radio dispatch reports indicated that the man did not display a weapon while inside the bank. Police did not say how much money the robber stole. The suspect is described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, between 5' 5" and 6' tall, with light-colored facial hair, but no mustache. At least one man is injured in a shooting that occured this evening at Culbreath Barber Shop.
Police have shut down Arch Street between Airy and Penn streets to investigate a shooting at Culbreath Barber Shop. Little information is available at this time and police have yet to release an official statement on the shooting, but witnesses at the scene say a fight between an unidentified employee of the barber shop and a patron turned violent when the patron pulled a gun and shot the employee. The employee, whose identity is being withheld to give authorities time to contact his family, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. He was reportedly awake and responsive when he was loaded onto the ambulance, but witnesses say he was shot in the chest.
