1. Yesterday at 1 p.m., the Schuylkill River measured in at 8.25 feet. By 8 p.m., it was already at 9.39! 1. Today was the deadline set by the U.S. Treasury for the government to work out a plan for raising the debt ceiling or risk going into default and jeopardizing our country's AAA credit rating. While the nation managed to avoid economic disaster yesterday when President Obama signed the debt-limit plan worked out by Congress, Moody’s Investors Service was confirming that Montgomery County would retain its AAA bond rating. 2. Norristown Municipal Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall. Among the issues being covered tonight—a presentation on a proposal to make DeKalb Street a two-way street. Tonight's Municipal Council meeting has been rescheduled for tomorrow so council members can join the rest of the community for Norristown Night Out at the George Washington Carver Community Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Join Norristown Community Policing and Town Watch for free swimming, food, dancing, a karate demonstration, emergency vehicle demonstrations and lots of information tables with giveaways.
