Because a local bar sold beers brewed outside of Pennsylvania, the robbery of its safe in 2011 resulted in the case heading to federal court. According to the U.S. Justice Department, the Hobbs Act (18 U.S.C. § 1951) "prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce." Marc Viney is facing charges in federal court for allegedly kidnapping, assaulting and robbing the manager of Uptown's Roo House Tavern in July of 2011.
According to a release issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Marc Viney, reportedly with ties to both Norristown and Philadelphia, was charged Thursday, June 21, with robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime in connection with his role in the robbery of Uptown's Roo House Tavern in July of 2011. According to The Times Herald, at a preliminary hearing in August 2011, Roo House manager Roosevelt Haulcy II testified that he returned home to his apartment on DeKalb Street after closing the bar and was hit from behind and tied up at gunpoint by Viney and another attacker.
