Deborah Olsen Nolan, vice president of student affairs and dean of students for Ursinus College, was cheering on her husband and daughter when the bombs detonated.
Ursinus Vice President of Student Affairs Deborah Olsen Nolan was cheering on her husband and daughter at the Boston Marathon on Monday when two explosive devices were detonated, killing three and wounding over 100. “We heard the explosions, were evacuated from our hotel, and walked around the area this morning,” Nolan wrote in an e-mail to Patch, as she was traveling home to Collegeville. “Every building seems to be guarded by SWAT or police with extensive weaponry. “ Nolan’s husband has run in several Boston Marathons, and her daughter was running her first in the city. “Both finished well before the tragedy, but my daughter had not yet showered or changed, so we were evacuated with her wrapped in her silver marathon blanket for …

The website rated the "hotness vs. craziness" of students, using official Ursinus student identification cards.
Ursinus students and administrators are dealing with the controversy that arose from a link sent to students on Nov. 7 asking them to rate their fellow students based on a randomized voting function using Ursinus College identification cards. "HowIMetUrsinus," which has since been removed from Zymic's hosting, asked users to vote on the "craziness/hotness" of students, provided a graph to compare the two, and allowed the search of students' ratings by name. "I personally monitored the site for a few hours after I was forwarded the link by a friend," said Jen Davis, a LGBTQA Connection Associate. Actor Tony Danza visited Ursinus College to reflect on his year teaching in Philadelphia, the resulting book, and to share own ideas for education reform.

Danza spent 2009 teaching 10th grade at Northeast High School in Philadelphia, and has written a book about it - "I'd Like to Apologize To Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High." Danza was brought to Ursinus College by the Towne Book Center in Collegeville to meet with fans and sign books. "I was sixty, got fired, I was feeling pretty crummy," Danza said, referencing his "Tony Danza Show," which was canceled in 2006. "I wanted to do something with my life - that my kids could be proud of" Inspired by "Teach for America," Danza …

Would you spend nearly $50,000 a year just on college tuition?
Pop quiz: Name Pennsylvania's most expensive college. New data from the U.S. Department of Education released this week reveals the answer. Bucknell University in Lewisburg captures the state's top spot with a gold-plated tuition price tag of $42,342 per year, the seventh highest in the country. Room and board or other fees will set you back another $10,000, at least, and expect to pay more in the future: the school has set yearly tuition for the Class of 2016 at $44,900. Closer to home, Ursinus College in Collegeville ranked 63rd on the nationwide list with an annual tuition cost of $40,120. The most expensive four-year private school in the study is Connecticut College, asking $43,990 per year for tuition. The data breaks out public vs…

Collegeville Mom, I love you and your fair assessment. I saw this man come home late, drained and desperste for a way to "reach the kids". He is an extremely intelligent well versed man. He had a true passion for what he was teaching..truly knew the classics these kids were reading and tried to get through to them. I felt bad for him...it wasn't just about the show for him..he really felt like …   more ›
