Three NASD Schools Identified as 'Low-Achieving' by Pa.

Whitehall Elementary joined Eisenhower and Stewart middle schools on the Department of Education's list of poor performers. Students at those schools may now be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in scholarship aid to attend a different school.

Three schools from the Norristown Area School District have once again appeared on the Pennsylvania Department of Education's list of low-achieving schools. For students living in areas served by those schools, the "low-achieving" designation could mean eligibility to take advantage of the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program (OSTCP). Students raised $2500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

According to 6ABC Action News, the students at Whitehall Elementary School recently presented a check for $2,554.81 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help people suffering with the diseases. Whitehall Elementary Receives Grant to Develop Cultural Programs

The $7,000 grant from Target is being administered by Young Audiences of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.

Whitehall Elementary School recently received a $7,000 grant to develop additional arts and cultural workshops for students of the school. “The grant is funded through Target and Young Audiences of New Jersey and (Eastern) Pennsylvania,” said music teacher Rosalie Hetrick. “Young Audiences has a portfolio of performers you can seek out for assembly programs. In these times of budget cuts, we have not had a lot of quality assembly programs. When I saw the grant was up for grabs, I asked my principal if she would author it with me.” Whitehall applied for the grant in September and received notification that it was a finalist in October. There were approximately 120 applicants for the grant, but only seven recipients, according to Hetrick. …
