Women Injured in Monday's Accident in Stable Condition

East Norriton Code Enforcement and the Montgomery County Board of Health recommend closing the Taco Bell for proper clean up.

The lunchtime accident on Dekalb Pike in East Norriton Wednesday is still an active investigation, according to East Norriton Police Chief Karyl Kates. The vehicle has been impounded, and the Montgomery County reconstruction team is aiding the police department on the investigation. The vehicle, driven by an older male, had been parked on the south side of the Taco Bell on DeKalb Pike and, as it was backing up, rear-ended another vehicle on the south side of the parking lot. After rear-ending the other vehicle, the vehicle went forward rapidly and through the glass and into the dining room of the fast food restaurant. Update: Accident Had Five Reported Victims, Two Medevaced

Witnesses describe the crash as "an explosion of glass."

At 12:41 p.m. today, an elderly white male backing out of a space at the East Norriton Taco Bell on DeKalb Pike hit a parked car, which, for some unknown reason, caused him to go forward at a rapid pace, said East Norriton Police Chief Karyl Kates this afternoon. The car was fully engulfed by the building, and five injuries were reported. One trauma injury and one non-trauma injury were medevaced to hospitals in Philadelphia by PennStar. The other three victims are being treated at Mercy Suburban Hospital, along with the driver of the vehicle, according to Kates. Witness John Barringer, a state patrol agent who was inside the Taco Bell for lunch, said, "[There was] an explosion of glass." His partner, Robert Martinez, echoed his sentiment…

Emergency crews have managed to free the woman trapped under the car that crashed into Taco Bell this afternoon.

Emergency crews have finally managed to free the woman trapped under the auto that crashed into Taco Bell shortly before 1 p.m. this afternoon. The unidentified woman is being medevaced to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police and emergency crews responded to the Taco Bell at DeKalb Pike in East Norriton just before 1 p.m. today for a report of a serious accident. An auto reportedly driven by a older male crashed into the Taco Bell, trapping one women underneath the vehicle. At least two injured people have been medevaced from the scene and another helicopter is in the wings, waiting. EMS crews are rushing to try and free the woman still trapped at the scene.
