Zoning Board Denies Variance for Condemned Arch Street Property

The owner of 801 Arch Street was requesting reinstatement of a mixed use variance that was lost when the building was condemned in May.

According to The Times Herald, Norristown's Zoning Hearing Board denied a request to reestablish a previously-held mixed-use variance on a property at 801 Arch Street after the variance was rescinded when the property was condemned earlier this year. The variance allowed for commercial use on the first floor (which previously held a beauty saloon and ice cream shop) and an apartment on the second floor. According to the Herald, Code Enforcement condemned the property for eight days in May for a new hot water heater that was failing to provide hot water to the second floor apartment. It was apparently condemned again in July for water in the basement and an insufficient exhaust pipe for the water heater. Owner James Reuben reportedly filed …

Norristown Resident Asks Tough Questions, Municipality Answers

Norristown resident Mary Ellen DiGregorio presented Norristown Municipal Council with a list of tough questions about gangs, 770 Sandy St. and vacant properties and the municipality has responded.

At the July 3 Norristown Municipal Council Meeting, resident Mary Ellen DiGregorio presented council with a list of questions about a number of contentious topics DiGregorio says are plaguing the municipality. Council President Gary Simpson accepted the list and promised answers would be forthcoming. In a letter addressed to DiGregorio and dated July 16, Norristown Municipal Manager Dave Forrest provided answers to DiGregorio's questions and Simpson has requested that local media publish both DiGregorio's questions and the municipality's answers. First of all, as INVESTORS, we pay for the trees, the sidewalks, and all the other stuff we are REQUIRED to do by code out of our pockets. Norristown Municipal Council has a full agenda for tonight's meeting.

Norristown Municipal Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy Street and Council has full agenda on its plate, most of it in the Planning, Economic and Business Development committee. Norristown Council Meets Tonight for Zoning Hearing and Other Matters

Council members will also discuss a proposal for a senior housing development project ont he grounds of the former Kennedy-Kenrick High School.

Norristown Municipal Council meets again tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy Street, to hold a public hearing on several zoning requests as well as discuss several other matters of business. In addition to a conditional use review for the proposed mural at 201 Dekalb Street, council will be discussing their intent to award a contract to add 10 additional parking spaces to Poley Park, the final adoption of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance and a proposed senior housing development for the former Kennedy-Kenrick High School.
