Patch Poll: Norristown's Best Garage/Mechanic

Who's the man you trust most with your car?

As conveniently located near plenty of public transportation as Norristown is, many of us still rely pretty heavily on our cars. And when you rely on your car, you really rely on your car's mechanic. So is there a top-notch auto repair shop in Norristown that just outshines the rest? I know my grandmother took her car to Al's Auto Sales & Service on Brown Street and swore by their work. I take my car to Art & Mark's Auto on West Wood. One Norristown Patch reader gave Spencer's Auto Inc a five star rating and another gave the same to Catania Auto Body. Is there an A-1 grease jockey you want to nominate? Let us know and we'll add it to the poll. Vote for your favorite car guy in the comments below by 9 a.m. Friday. We'll present the winner …

Patch Poll: Best Italian Restaurant

We're wondering who's got the best Italian in town?

If Norristown's got anything going for it (and it's got plenty), it's the food. We've seen a Renaissance in restaurants in the last few years and lord knows we already had a few gems to start with. One culinary realm in which we excel has got to be Italian food. Norristown may be a melting pot, but that pot is being stirred by a little old Italian lady. The Italian community has always been one of the bedrocks of Norristown (just ask Norristown Ambassador Hank Cisco!). Even my sainted Irish grandmother knows how to whip up a pot of meatballs and sauce – she learned at the apron strings of the Italian mothers who dominated the Norristown neighborhood she started our family in. So if Norristownians are stepping out for a plate of pasta, …

Giacomo's ambiance reminds me of my childhood when Greenwich Village was an italian neighborhood. The braciole is special. And the cioppino is really good, too!   more ›

Patch Poll: Best Place to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

This weekend is St. Patrick's Day, and while we may have already had our parade, the real party will be happening this Saturday. So where will you be celebrating?

Norristown may be a melting pot, but on St. Patrick's Day everybody's inner Irishman takes over. So where will Norristown's party people be getting their green on this weekend? Who's got the best St. Patrick's Day party in town? Is it the Beagle Tavern or the Peanut Gallery? How about the the Black Horse Tavern or the Valley Forge Beef & Ale? Or is the real party happening at Chap's Taproom? Vote for your favorite spot in our poll below by 9 a.m. Friday. We'll present the winner with a certificate congratulating them on their Celtic capabilities. If there's a tie, we'll use positive comments in our comment section to break it so be sure to tell us why you love your favorite spot so. Oh, and if there's a party place we haven't heard about, …

Patch Poll: Best Coffee in Norristown

We know you love your Starbucks, but what local haunt brews up the best joe in Norristown?

With word that Coffee Talk closed down, Norristown no longer has a dedicated coffee shop. We know a lot of folks get their fix at one of the nearby Starbucks' or even one of the many Dunkin' Donuts in town (some of us even hit up the Wawa or the 7-Eleven), but there are plenty of spots in town that serve up a piping hot pot of black gold every morning. I've heard the Court House Diner and Lou's Sandwich Shop both serve up a serious cup, and I know my dad is partial to the brew at the Norristown Food Mart. I'm sure there are other secret spots you'd like to share so let us know in the comments and we'll add it to our poll. In the meantime, vote your favorite in our poll below by 9 a.m. Friday. We'll present the winner with a certificate …
