Did You See It?
A meteor―or something that looked like one―was visible entering the Earth's atmosphere shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, according to numerous unconfirmed reports.
From Boston to the Carolinas on Friday night, there were hundreds of unconfirmed reports on Twitter and other social media outlets of a meteor-like object visibly entering the Earth's atmosphere shortly before 8 p.m. Montgomery County resident E. Steven Collins said he saw the meteor moving quickly across the sky, and told the Washington Post's "Capital Weather Gang" that the meteor was "Bright. Orange. Blue. White. Silver. Totally streaking by the sky light!" A meteor estimated to be about 50 feet wide and weighing more than 10,000 tons exploded over central Russia last month, injuring hundreds with a shockwave that blew out windows and damaged structures across a wide area.
