PAW Supports Area Firefighters

Pennsylvania American Water recently provided a $1,000 contribution to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial improvement fund.

From Pennsylvania American Water: On the grounds of the Montgomery County Fire Academy in Plymouth Township stands a memorial to local firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. The memorial was erected in 1994 thanks to donations from the county’s fire departments and supporting organizations.  Today, the memorial is without space for any additional names. "While we hope and pray that this need will never arise, we realize the unfortunate likelihood that names will have to be added in the future," said John Kelly, chairman of the Fire Advisory Board. Pa. State Firemen's Convention Kicks Off Today

The three-day gathering will culminate in Norristown on Saturday with a parade featuring over 300 firetrucks and emergency service vehicles, some 13 marching bands and a battalion of firefighters in their dress uniforms.

Just in time for Norristown's Bicentennial Celebration, our hometown is playing host to Pennsylvania's (and some of New Jersey's) everyday heroes for a three-day convention culminating with a spectacle of a parade on Saturday – the 2012 Firemen’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania Convention has arrived! The convention kicks off today, with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. at the Montgomery County Fire Academy on Conshohocken Road in Plymouth and ends Saturday with a spectacular parade through the streets of Norristown, featuring over 300 firetrucks and emergency service vehicles, 13 bands and firefighters from all over the state (and some from New Jersey) in their parade finery. Turnpike to Hold Open House in Plymouth on Thursday

Area residents impacted by the Turnpike widening project are invited to attend.

According to a release issued by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), the PTC will host a "Construction Update Open House" on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Montgomery County Fire Academy, 1175 Conshohocken Road in Conshohocken. Go to www.montcopa.org for directions to the facility. According to the PTC, the open house format will provide residents near the reconstruction and six-lane widening project at the Mid-County Interchange to Berks Road (milepost A20-A26) an opportunity to meet with Turnpike officials, the contractor and consultants involved with the project.
