Charges Held Against West Conshy Truck Driver in Connection with Crash that Killed West Norriton Man

Benjamin Kane is being charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the October Turnpike crash that killed West Norriton man Michael SanFelice.

According to The Times Herald, 34-year-old Benjamin Joseph Kane waived his Wednesday hearing in an Oreland district court and charges of vehicular manslaughter, aggravated assault ond others were held in connection with the Oct. 22, 2012 Turnpike crash that took the life of PennDOT worker Michael SanFelice. Kane, of West Conshohocken, is accused of crashing his truck into a work zone on the Turnpike and killing 66-year-old Michael SanFelice, of West Norriton, who was working on the scene. According to the Herald, prosecutors may argue that Kane, who was operating with a suspended license at the time of the crash, was texting on his cell phone at the time of the accident. Maintenance Worker Killed in Turnpike Accident

A turnpike commission spokeswoman confirmed that a worker was killed while doing "routine maintenance" Monday morning.

Last updated 12:13 p.m. A Pennsylvania Turnpike maintenance worker was killed Monday morning when a tractor-trailer overturned in the eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Mimi Doyle, Public Information Manager for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, told Patch. Doyle said that the worker was doing "routine maintenance on the side of the road," but was unable to say whether the worker was on foot or inside a vehicle at the time of the accident. At the scene, road workers could be seen saluting as what was apparently the worker's body was loaded into a maroon SUV with flashing emergency lights.
