Shade Tree Commission Planning 'Random Act of Gardening' Today

Volunteers are invited to join the members of the Shade Tree Commission at Main and DeKalb streets today at 4:30 p.m. to spruce up the corner.

Councilman Bill Caldwell announced last night at Norristown's Municipal Council meeting that members of the Shade Tree Commission and volunteers would be committing a "random act of gardening" today. The group plans to convene at the corner of Main and DeKalb streets at 4:30 p.m. to do some weeding and spruce up the garden planted there in May of this by a local landscaper. Volunteers and gardening enthusiasts are invited to join in the geurilla gardening action later today. If you do plan on going, make sure to bring your own gloves and hand tools. According to Caldwell, more random acts of gardening are planned for Main Street and the surrounding area in the near future. --- Related Story Local Landscaper Transforms Norristown Lot

Strawberry Alley Getting a Facelift

Covanta Plymouth Renewable Energy is helping the Norristown Shade Tree Commission and Montgomery County to cleanup and beautify Strawberry Alley.

The block-long pedestrian pathway commonly known as Strawberry Alley connecting the Norristown Transportation Center on LaFayette Street to the Montgomery County Courthouse plaza on Main Street is getting a facelift. The pathway is heavily used by visitors to Norristown and county employees but despite its use, the alley has a history of neglect and is commonly littered with trash and defaced with graffiti. As part of Montgomery County’s  and Norristown’s ongoing efforts to clean up the alley, the Norristown Shade Tree Commission and Covanta Plymouth Renewable Energy are planning a tree planting and beautification project for Friday, Oct. 7. Look for crews to start cleaning up the walkway as early as 9am and be sure to thank the workers …
