As it says above, please contact your council members regarding the search for a Police Chief. This is a Chief Executive job in the Norristown police department. We need an internal and external search for the best candidate. It is also a legal issue since there are laws governing fairness in employment. So, if Council does not do the right thing and conduct a search, Norristown could be sued by …   more ›

Council Meets Tonight to Revoke 'Three Strikes' Ordinance

An ordinance aimed at landlords of problem tenants was challenged by the ACLU.

Norristown Municipal Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy Street, and among the topics on tonight's agenda will be a vote to revoke Norristown's "Three Strikes Ordinance." The ordinance was designed to give the municipality an avenue for dealing with landlords whose tenants are considered repeat offenders by police when it comes to disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and other illegal behavior. The ordinance would require a landlord of a targeted property to develop a plan of action and could eventually result in a hearing at which the revocation of the rental license would be considered. According to Municipal Manager Dave Forrest, the American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter to the …

This is not a special interest group, the Fair Housing Act is a federal law designed to protect our rights to housing. The repercussions of fining the landlord is to evict the tenant and suggesting that it is ok to evict someone because they are in need of police assistance is rediculous. Housing is a civil right and Norristown is full of slum lords that take advantage of the lack of local …   more ›

Hapless Norristown Burglar Sentenced to 25-to-50 Years Under Pa.'s 'Three Strikes' Law

Frank Roselli, of Norristown, reportedly rejected a plea deal to go to trail and will now face up to 50 years in prison for his unsuccessful burglary of a Norristown home.

Norristown Patch reported back in April of this year on Frank Roselli's unsuccessful attempt to burglarize a Norristown home. Roselli was reportedly captured by the hockey stick-wielding homeowner who came home and caught him in the act. According to The Times Herald, the 44-year-old Roselli (Original reports and some court documents give his age as 25, but those same court documents list prior burglary convictions as early as 1989.) was sentenced on Tuesday, July 10, to 25 to 50 years in prison for that burglary. The stiff sentence was a result of Pennsylvania's "Three Strikes" law aimed at violent and repeat offenders. "We offered Mr. Roselli a reasonable sentence, based on the circumstances and his criminal history. He chose to turn …
