New Norristown Police Chief Mark E. Talbot, Sr. Sworn In

Talbot's official start date is Nov. 25.

After Mark E. Talbot, Sr. was sworn in as the new Norristown Chief of Police at the municipal council’s Tuesday night meeting, the audience stood to applaud.

The Hon. William T. Nicholas, a senior judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, swore Talbot in, as family stood by. After the ceremony, Talbot remained there through the rest of the meeting in his new seat with the council members.

Talbot, who has served as the Deputy Chief of Police in Reading, PA, as well as an adjunct instructor at the Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, will have his official start date in Norristown on Nov. 25.

The ceremony followed council’s Nov. 6 meeting where they approved a motion and appointed Talbot as the new police chief

According to Talbot, he has been meeting with Chief of Police Willie Richet, in preparation for his new position. After he starts, the new chief plans to move forward quickly to do what is best for the community.

“I think what’s important for me to get out is that I feel strongly that the police department doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to Norristown. So, none of this is going to be about me, it’s going to be about Norristown and what’s best for the people here. That’s where our focus will continue to be.”
